Your journey begins just north of Kanab, where we’ll take scenic backroads through the rugged desert terrain before arriving at this iconic sand-filled alcove. After a short but rewarding hike up a soft sand hill, you’ll reach the top—where breathtaking views of Grand Staircase-Escalante stretch as far as the eye can see.


This tour is perfect for photographers, adventurers, and families looking for a once-in-a-lifetime moment. With small group sizes, expert guides, and no crowds, you’ll have plenty of time to capture the world-famous Great Chamber photo and soak in the magic of the desert.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How difficult is the hike to the Great Chamber?

    The hike is short but steep, with a sandy incline leading to the top. It’s a moderate effort, but our guides will take breaks as needed. The incredible views make it absolutely worth it!

  • Do we drive our own UTV?

    Yes! We expect guests to drive their own UTV and follow the guide unless requested otherwise. UTVs are booked per machine (1-2, 3-4, or 5-6 seats), and the group size is limited to three UTVs plus a guide (around 12 people total).

  • What should we bring?

    Wear closed-toe shoes (required for drivers) and comfortable hiking clothes. Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, water, and a camera—this is a bucket-list photo opportunity! Helmets and goggles are provided.

  • When and where does the tour start?

    Tours run Monday–Saturday (closed Sundays) and year-round. The start time changes seasonally to ensure the best lighting for photos. Meet at Expedition Kanab headquarters in central Kanab, and arrive 15 minutes early for check-in.

  • Can we make special requests?

    Yes! If you’d like a private tour, a different time, or have a special request, give us a call—we’re happy to customize your experience.
